We are looking for a Glasgow-based performer to contribute to a group exhibition centred around ideas of social interactions and the experience of the body in an increasingly virtual society.
The selected performer(s) are expected to contribute ideas to the collective in the run up to the exhibition and ultimately put on a performance at the opening event (this could be physical or digital depending on circumstances surrounding COVID next year). We meet on a fortnightly basis (currently online) to discuss our ideas, plan future projects, and engage with research of topics we are interested in. The exhibition 'Looking for You' will open on 22/05/21 at the Project Room, Glasgow.
‘Looking for You’ started as a response to the concept of mirroring: an act that describes the way in which we imitate each other in social interactions. The interdependence of gestures, speech patterns, and mimicry illustrates how we adjust to those we interact with. Over recent months, direct interaction has changed dramatically; the physical distance between us has increased due to social distancing and screens and barriers being erected. We are interested in thinking about how those changes in our everyday interactions with others impact on our awareness of our own physical bodies and the things we touch.
You are intrigued and would love to be part of a supportive group of artists and shape the exhibition at the Project Room? Then we welcome your proposal for a performance.
Please send the following to tragicomcollective at gmail.com :
Please note that we are in conversation about how to ensure the performances can be accessible regardless of COVID-19 restrictions that might be in place in May 2021. We welcome experience or ideas of alternative formats to traditional gallery openings to ensure performance-based work is properly represented.
Deadline 31/12/2o midnight
